I connect at the highest speed available, 38,400 and run the refresh rate at a 100 miliseconds which is the fastest that is available in HRD. I also use the Signalink USB along with the cat cable from RT systems.

My equipment is as follows: Brand new HP laptop with Windows 7 64 bit and a Yaesu 857D. I can plug it in, but it will block the other opening for the USB port because of its size.

I can't plug it into the other side where I have 2 USB ports right next to eachother. I have a very small issue with the RT: the USB end is pretty wide, which means I have to plug it into the end of the computer that has one USB port on it. As of right now, it is the cable I prefer for my setup. I don't know if they make a model for every radio, but it eliminates purchasing the adapter, as it already has the USB end on it. The other cable in use daily is the one sold by RT Systems. The Keyspan adapter is fairly popular, I read about folks having good luck with it. I have seen some cables possibly being sold as a Yaesu brand cable. That was my backup adapter I used with the YAESU CT62 cable. The first one is from Keyspan model USA 19HS. If it fails on one USB port, try another port and it will pick up the driver.

Just make sure your adapter is disconnected when you do the install. I'm not smart enough!! I have tried 2 different adapters. I recently got a new HP e9280t (Core i7) with Win 7 圆4, connected my USB to serial adapter and it didn't work. I can't help you with the problem your having with your current adapter.
